Business Development Partner — Public Sector

The Opportunity

McDonald & Harden helps local governments identify, position, secure, and manage federal funding for capital projects. We are seeking an experienced Business Development Partner with established relationships in the public sector to introduce M&H to qualified municipalities, counties, councils of governments, parks agencies, utilities, and other public entities.

The Role

The Business Development Partner's primary responsibility is straightforward:

Create qualified introductions and bring prospective public-sector clients to the table.

M&H handles project evaluation, funding strategy, proposals, federal positioning, contracting, and service delivery.

Ideal Background

We are particularly interested in individuals with prior experience in:

  • Local-government sales or business development
  • Municipal engineering, infrastructure, technology, or professional services
  • Government relations
  • Municipal associations or councils of governments
  • Former local-government executives with strong professional networks

Existing relationships with city managers, county administrators, public works executives, parks directors, capital-project officials, and other local-government decision-makers are particularly valuable.

What M&H Offers

Our services address a common problem: communities often have multiple capital needs but lack a defined sequence or federal funding strategy.

M&H can evaluate those competing priorities, identify the strongest funding candidates, map potential federal funding paths, and develop a Capital Funding Roadmap that positions projects for future funding opportunities.

For funding-ready projects, M&H provides comprehensive federal funding strategy and post-award support.

Compensation

This is a performance-based opportunity designed to reward actual business development results.

Compensation would include:

A substantial share of initial client engagement revenue, plus additional performance compensation tied to qualifying business generated.

The specific structure will be established with the selected partner and designed to create meaningful recurring upside from successful client relationships.

What Success Looks Like

The right partner does not need to become a federal funding expert.

You open the right doors. M&H takes it from there.

Our objective is to build a long-term relationship with someone who already understands how local government operates, knows the decision-makers, and can consistently create credible introductions.

If you think that you fit this position, please email Chris Litton, Managing Partner at chris@mcdhn.com
